Waterville is a hybrid, a work of transatlantic cooperation, and, like many hybrids, it grew slowly but is all the stronger for it, fusing energies and inspiration from both sides of the ocean. With origins dating back to the 1880s when a commercial cable company arrived in town, its testimonials tell the story: “Waterville has to be one of greatest golf courses ever built,” said Henry Cotton, three-time Open Champion, while Tom Watson thought the par 3’s to be the best in the world.
