Cliveden House - Set within 376 acres of Berkshire countryside, Cliveden House is one of England’s great country-house hotels. Rich in history and character, it provides an elegant base for the Surrey heathlands, with London also within easy reach for sightseeing, theatre, dining and drinks.
The Hoste - At the heart of Burnham Market, The Hoste provides a relaxed base for the North Norfolk chapter of the journey. Its individually designed rooms, dining and central village location put both Brancaster and the character of the surrounding coast within easy reach.
Moor Hall - The final stay is Moor Hall, a restored country estate and home to Mark Birchall’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant. Elegant guest rooms and accomplished dining make it a fitting base for the great links of England’s North West and time in nearby Liverpool.
From heathland to links
England’s extraordinary variety is what makes this journey work.
In Surrey, Sunningdale Old winds through pine and birch woodland, with firm-running fairways and classic heathland terrain. Nearby, Swinley Forest offers an understated, secluded test of natural heathland golf.
North Norfolk brings something entirely different. Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster sits among dunes and salt marshes in a wonderfully remote setting. The tides influence access to the course, while distinctive bunkers faced with historic railway sleepers add to its individual character.
Then come three great championship links in England’s North West. Royal Liverpool at Hoylake is steeped in championship history, Royal Lytham & St Annes is defined by deep bunkers and testing rough, and Royal Birkdale brings dramatic dunes and fast-running fairways.
For those wanting to travel further, the adventure can also extend south-east to Kent, incorporating Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports.
North Norfolk, between land and sea
The journey north takes you by private helicopter from Surrey to a very different English landscape, where vast skies meet sweeping beaches, tidal creeks and salt marshes.
At its heart is Burnham Market, an elegant Georgian village centred around its green, with flint cottages, independent boutiques, galleries and cafés. Nearby, Brancaster and the wider coastline offer a quieter change of pace between Surrey and the championship links further north.
Here, the contrast is part of the appeal: a remote, tidal golf course, a characterful village base and a stretch of England that feels a long way from the Surrey heathlands left behind.
Beyond the golf in Liverpool
Liverpool brings another dimension to the final stage of the adventure. Its maritime heritage, music, architecture and cultural life provide plenty to discover away from the course.
The waterfront, Royal Albert Dock, Georgian Quarter, museums, galleries and the city’s famous musical history can all form part of the experience, depending on the interests of the group.
